Who's Your Daddy?

Post Your Favorite Legend, Be It Car, Driver or Even Rider.

Burt Munro born in 1899 died in December 1978, His twin sister died at birth and Burt, said the doctor, "won't live till he's two". Fortunately for New Zealand's motorcycle history the doctor was wrong.

For me, its the car not a driver. There are few vehicles that have impressed or conquered more forms of successful motorsport than the Classic Mini. Giant killers, all over the world, for several decades!

This one is easy, both driver and car, Ari Vatanen and the Peugeot 205 T16. Audi, Lancia etc and the other Group B rally cars were pretty much dominating rallying, then Puegeot turned up and changed the way things were done, space frame, mid-engined purpose built rally car.
This picture was taken at the Gold Cup Historic race meeting at Oulton Park, England, last year, there is a dedicated rally circuit there.

When the Group B rally cars were banned in 1985, Peugeot looked for something else to use the car in, So they had a go at the Paris-Dakar rally, after twiddling with the suspension etc, the car was ready for the 1987 event and so was Ari, they won the event, he won again the following year, this time in a 405 T16, but was disqualified because the car was stolen from parc ferme, but found later, so he was late for some sections, but another 405 T16 officially won anyway driven by Juha Kankkunen, Ari won it again in 1989 and 1990 in the 405 and again in 1991, but this time in a Citroen ZX.

The next one is Ari at the Pikes Peak Hillclimb, he set a new record in 1989, but this time in a 405 T16, 850kg and over 600bhp, sorry guys......not a V8 in sight.
