HICKORY, N.C. (May 16, 2008) – On the eve of Dale Jarrett's final NASCAR Sprint Cup race, a freak accident at his home on Lake Hickory resulted in the death of a lawn care worker.
The man, an employee of a landscaping service, was riding a lawn tractor when he got too close to a barrier wall and the tractor flipped into Lake Hickory. His co-workers ran to his aid and pulled him from the water. The man, who has not been identified, was transported to Frye Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
"I know something happened with those who mow our lawn and keep our lawn up, but I do not know anything further than that. Nothing I can say,” Jarrett responded when asked to comment on the accident that occurred while he was at Lowe's Motor Speedway preparing for Saturday night's NASCAR Sprint All-Star race.
