A Quick Look At Qualifying For The Crown Royal Presents Dan Lowry 400

  • Denny Hamlin earned the pole Friday for Saturday night's NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Richmond International Raceway with a lap of 21.395 seconds, 126.198 mph in his FedEx Express Toyota. It was his first pole this season.

  • Earning the outside front row starting position in the U.S. Army Chevrolet was veteran Mark Martin. The Arkansas native posted a 21.423-second, 126.033-mph lap.

  • Rookie Patrick Carpentier paced the Dodge contingent. He steered his car to the fourth-place starting position with a lap of 21.458 seconds, 125.827 mph.

  • David Ragan was the top-qualifying Ford, posting the 13th quickest lap. Ragan was clocked at 21.571 seconds, 125.168 mph.

  • There were six Dodge drivers in the top 10. In addition to Carpentier, Reed Sorenson will start fifth, Juan Pablo Montoya sixth, Elliot Sadler eighth, Kasey Kahne ninth and Ryan Newman 10th.

  • Failing to qualify for the race were Ken Schrader, Scott Wimmer, John Andretti and Jon Wood.
