3M Sponsoring August Michigan Race

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- For the third consecutive season, 3M is bringing the thrill of NASCAR racing to Michigan International Speedway.

The 3M Performance 400 is scheduled for Aug. 17, and, for the first time, Bondo, which 3M recently acquired, will be the presenting sponsor.

The company is also bringing back the popular 3M Car Care Auto Fair for the race weekend. Held in the AAA Motorsports Fan Plaza, the 3M Car Care Auto Fair, co-sponsored by Safelite and CARSTAR, will feature more than 40 classic cars. Fans and auto enthusiasts will be able to mingle with collectors, restorers and car care professionals to check out the classic cars, plus learn and share car care tips. Free entertainment will include appearances by NASCAR stars, music and product demonstrations. The 3M corporate display - showcasing many of its 60,000 patented product innovations - also will be there.

In addition to the 3M Performance 400 Presented by Bondo and the 3M Car Care Auto Fair, 3M will sponsor Greg Biffle in the Roush Fenway Racing No. 16 3M Ford Fusion in the NASCAR Sprint Cup event.

Many NASCAR teams have used 3M products for years, and 3M creates solutions for speed needed by motorsports professionals. The company's products are used for streamlining car construction, improving driver safety, reducing in-race service time and protecting car finishes and aerodynamic efficiency.

Many NASCAR teams rely on 3M respirators, welding hoods, tapes and abrasives to prepare the race cars for competition. The 3M adhesives are used to help weld body panels and provide strength to the car's structure. Wrapping vehicles in lieu of painting the graphics also has gained traction in NASCAR, thanks to 3M Controltac Plus Graphic Film with Comply Adhesive. The Scotchgard Paint Protection Film helps reduce damage on the car from debris. Our 3M Nextel thermal blankets help keep drivers cool in the cockpit, while 3M sealants help keep fumes out of the race cars. And 3M's Bondo products are used for body repairs when damage happens on the race track.
