CHARLOTTE, N.C. – After racing in the Northeast for several years, promising young driver Brit Andersen has moved south to “live the dream” of becoming a stock car racer, campaigning Late Model Stocks at Tri-County and Hickory speedways.
“Coming down here, being in the atmosphere of racing and being around all the people who live and love racing” was what Andersen said he needed to advance his career.
“It’s a whole different atmosphere down here and I love it,” he continued.
While Andersen's early results have not been as satisfying as he’d hoped, he's already scoring top 10 finishes, and is in a tie for seventh in Hickory [N.C.] Motor Speedway's Bojangle’s Late Model standings. At Tri-County Motor Speedway in Hudson, N.C., “it could be a lot better,” he admits with a wry smile. “When we get that combination of me being comfortable and the car being consistent, we’ve shown it – we can run top fives easily. I know we can run fast. We’ve run fast lap in qualifying, in the races, and it [the car] just changes, I don’t know if it’s the weather or the track.”
Andersen describes his work in Tommy Pistone’s shop as “cool”, adding that in getting to know the rest of the team, “their favorite bands, playing jokes, we’re more comfortable with each other. Tommy’s a great guy. He lets me have time off when I need to go get parts or run personal errands. He’s very understanding.”
Andersen's next race is Memorial Day weekend at Hickory, but he is considering racing a Modified at home in Stafford, Conn., on the Friday before Memorial Day.
