Drivers racing General Motors-based race cars won five Sports Car Club of America National Championships last weekend at the annual Runoffs Presented by AT&T at the 2.5-mile Heartland Park Topeka circuit in Kansas.
Ken Flory, a Pratt & Miller engineer, drove his Pontiac Solstice Z0K to the model's second straight Runoffs win against a strong field of experienced import manufacturers in the Showroom Stock B race Saturday.
"I was hit in the rear at the start," said Flory, who was competing in his first Runoffs," but that was enough to push my Solstice into the lead and we were able to stay there."
With 60 teams racing GM-branded vehicles in six classes, GM was able to extend its SCCA National Championship Runoffs streak to 133 wins in 52 consecutive years, a record unmatched by any other manufacturer.
