Division four action

Some of the division four sportsman cars were testing for a upcoming race
and a young lad had his camera out to catch the action!

The photographer a novice but has a real knack for action shots. This
picture shows how he can stick with the action until something develops.
Look closely at the hood scoop!

I always did have a thing for front engine dragsters, especially SB Chevy powered ones. Any one here old enough to remember Freight Train, a twin engine dragster from the early 60's. It was truly an awsome looking machine.

I remember the car, a truly awesome machine. I don't think I ever saw it run, I
was only a kid in the early days of Southland Dragways in Houma, Louisiana.
Perhaps I remember it from the pages of magazines? No internet back then!

That Run was with 946 HP @ 9000 to 9200 RPM...pretty flat at high RPMs
600 Peak TQ @ 600 RPM/SEC

i start the Pull at 8000 RPM to 9500
the Dyno Graph just shows basically 2 straight parallel lines running across

With New Engine Mods=>
Now 970+ Peak HP with 600 TQ....but now very limited to what
Traction DragStrip's surface will give to 12" wide Slicks.
De-Tune Engine to 900's to 940 HP on marginal Traction conditions
by reducing Ign Timing + other things

Larry,
Thanks for the update on the dragster. I look froward to seeing it every time NHRA
comes to No Problem Raceway. 946 HP N/A SBC amazing!

My first experience with a FED came in the form of a Hilborn injected SBC running on alky. This was in the 60's.

The only instrument in dragster was an oil pressure gauge.

The owner's instructions were to simply full throttle it and pull the chute at the end of strip.

What a carnival ride!

About the only thing I remember from the 60's! Just kidding!

Great work on the dragster, Larry!

Have you employed every trick possible on Craig's heads or is there more to come?

You have to love Belle Rose for quick ET's!

No there's more to come

The last 2007 Dyno session a few Months ago we made
almost 1000 HP (998) ..but on that Pull the Engine was surging just
a tiny bit at high RPMs and i felt the Dyno HP were "False HP" as the
surging was "spiking" the Strain-gauge.

However it did make a bunch of 970 to 980 HP Pulls
that were very flat Curves.

Here's an old Dyno Graph from 2006 when it made 946.9 HP
as run at No Problem on that 6.81 192.25
