Thumbs down why is fast bad??

I have a question. Why is a racer goes under 7.70 are they suspended for 6 months?

This is from ihra.com:

Junior Dragster competitor Gary Yazell of Paris, KY has been suspended from competition at all IHRA tracks until October 3, 2008 due to an infraction of the rules as stated on page 96 of the IHRA rulebook at Mountain Park Dragway. “If a competitor runs quicker than 7.70 at any time, their license will be suspended for six months from the date of infraction.”

Having been on rules committees and a member of a racing legislation body in the past, my guess would be that the 85mph and 7.70 ET limit is centered around safety. The classes are for youth racing, and getting good sponsorship is hard enough these days without accidents.

Like all rules that are clearly spelled out in the rules books, if you brake them, you pay the price. 'Big boy rules' and all that.

Any racing incident resulting in a major injury or fatality of a pre-teen racer would
be very bad for the sport.

I don't know much about the Junior scene, but I wonder if the rule is also a cost containment measure?
