Heads up racing IHRA style!
![]() Home from: roddingandracing.com NEW IHRA PRO-AM FORMAT IN 2008! "Since it's inception three years ago, the American Drag Racing League (ADRL) has visited Texas twice a year with national events at Texas Raceway in Kennedale and Houston Motorsports Park in Houston. Last year the ADRL moved it's World Finals from Kennedale east to the Texas Motorplex in Ennis. In 2008 the season opening Dragpalooza also moves to a new home at Houston Raceway Park (HRP) in Baytown. Both Texas tracks are NHRA sanctioned and both hold NHRA national events and although they are both quarter mile tracks, the ADRL utilizes the eighth mile outlaw format. Below are thumbnails taken during the 2007 World Finals in Ennis and I hope you can join me along with hundreds of racers and thousands of fans for the 2008 ADRL racing season. March 7-8 finds the ADRL at HRP for the RacingJunk.com Dragpalooza IV while their final event is again at the Texas Motorplex on October 24-25 for the 4th Annual AlphaTrade World Finals. 2008 promises to be an interesting year for IHRA Division 4 racers. Four double Pro-Am events are on tap plus a new double event consisting of a Pro-Am event together with a Sportsman only National event. The double Pro-Am events will begin on Friday with testing and tuning. Saturday will open with two qualifying sessions followed by the first Pro-Am event. Sunday has only one qualifying session followed immediately by the second Pro-Am event. Two chances on the same weekend for racers to get valuable points. The final event will share the same qualifying format but with the Sunday event counting as a National event. The Division 4 Pro-Am season begins March 14-16 at San Antonio Raceway. April 18-20 finds them at Tulsa Raceway Park in Oklahoma. State Capitol Dragway in Baton Rouge the former home of the NHRA Cajun Nationals, hosts the third event on May 2-4 and Pine Valley Raceway in Lufkin will round out the four double Pro-Am events on June 20-22. The final Pro-Am National event combo will take place on August 29-31 at the new, currently under construction Dallas Raceway. Sounds like an interesting format but the bottom line, especially for racing fans, is that it's a full weekend of great heads up racing. I personally haven't covered an IHRA divisional race since they were held at Lone Star Raceway in Sealy but hopefully I can make it back in 2008. Like I said, good heads up racing IHRA style!" |
