DOVER, Del. (June 1, 2008) – Five NASCAR Sprint Cup Dodge drivers talked with U.S. Troops in Iraq via a satellite feed Sunday prior to the Best Buy 400 at Dover International Speedway.
The satellite feed was located at the Dodge Boys display, which was in the fan plaza outside the 1-mile track. Talking with the troops were Juan Pablo Montoya, Kasey Kahne, Bobby Labonte, Kurt Busch and Jeremy Mayfield, who was substituting for the injured Dario Franchitti.
Mayfield previously participated in a USO tour that traveled to Iraq.
“We got to see so many things that go on over there,” Mayfield said. “I got to pretty much stay with them for 12 days and see all of the stuff that’s going on. It’s pretty amazing.
“What the media portrays them to be doing over here in the United States is not what’s going on over there. There’s a good thing going on over there, trust me. We need to continue the mission and finish it out. I got to see that first hand and really understand what was going on, so that’s what was good for me. To go over there and help a little bit made me feel really good and very proud to go over there and do that.”
