Adiabatic?
When DV mentioned manifold heat to help vaporization, my mind went straight to Smokey Yunick and his adiabatic engine in the lte '70's or early '80's. I don't remember much about it now, but he tried to harness as much of the heat energy produced by the engine to improve mileage and emissions.
Does anybody out there remember any more about it? |

hello gofaster@heads1st.com,
I have the popular science (I think it was pop sci anyway) article on it, you can also find the patent for it as well. If you would like more info on either I can probably find it pretty quick. I think I saved the description from the patent application but I'm not positive. Just let me know and I will look for it. I think someone mentions it in another thread here also, just recently even. Basically, if I remember correctly, he heated the fuel/air first with coolant, then with exhaust and kept it compressed with a small turbo that I think he called a homogneizer or something of the sorts. The one I know of was in a Fiero, although it seems like he had a couple of them, I think one even had a custom billet block but I could be wrong. It has been several years since I read the article. I have read / heard that Smokey left out some important details in his patent application to protect his design. The question now is who knows these details and is willing to tell.
