Flow bench techniques

I"m building a bench like David talks about.
Going to seal the block and install a pan and pull from the pan.
Had a thought what it i was to install a valve train and put the engine on overlap and pull on the exhuast port. Would that be a represent how the engine actually operates in the real world?
Thanks for the great series David. Learning a lot.

At what lift points during overlap would you flow at?
Before TDC, after TDC, or just at TDC?

What would you be looking for?
Better flow at any point during overlap, early in overlap, late during overlap?
Maybe less flow at one point, but better at another?

With both valves open, how will you decide where the restriction is?
Even if the valves are opened to the same lift during overlap, the intake will have more window area, so flow potential on the intake will be better there.

When pulling from the ex pipe/port, there will be pressure drop from the point the depression is created, thru the ex port/pipe to the intake, so the intake will be being tested at a lower depression than the ex.
