Line Bore size on a BBC

I'm rebuilding 2 454 boat engines. Who ever rebuilt them last left me a few presents . But they are easily over come.

The surprise I didn't expect was with one of the blocks line bore. When I took them apart I noticed that each main cap had a .020 stamped next to them. Didn't really think much of it until I went to check the housing measurements. The dail bore gauge didn't even move, and I could move it a bit before it moved the needle. So I added .020 to the gauge and it is exactly that much too big?!?!... Have to admit I've never seen that done on the mains or the rods. I have ran into this on the cam bearings though. But thats usually from the factory and the bearings are marked accordingly. The crank was .010 under and thats all it gives for the measurement on the back of the bearings. I used a ball mike and measured both engines shell halfs and the bearings in question were .010 thicker.

Anyone ever run into this?? The bearing number was a king bearing PN#F5274L SI . I'd rather run the Federal Mogul Mains but am not sure if they have them. Any one have a FM PN for it if so? If not how does one ask for this type change on the bearings?

Thanks, Don
