Decided to swap the cam

I think my cam was just too big for my compression (11.29:1 383CI) so I ordered this one today:

Howards, Mech. Flat Tappet Cam, Chev SB 262-400, .534/.542
Chev SB 262-400
Lift: .534/.542
Adv. Duration: 286/294
Duration @ .050": 249/252
Lobe Center: 106
Tight lash O/T profile, great power coming off corners
*Available with small base circle (Add $10)

Old cam was
259/266
106
.550/.570

I usually use cam-motion for my cams. They have done a pretty good job for me over the years. I have been considering trying out camking though. He seems to have some pretty good ideas.

I think I can already guess the answer to this one but what the heck. My current lifters are Comp "Direct Lube" with the hole in the face to directly lube the cam lobe. They were very expensive (For me lol) and have maybe 500 miles on them, I would like to re-use them. Any thoughts? 2 locals I talked to said "No problem, I do it all the time" I personally never woulda considered it before. New cam will be here in the next 2 days.

Here is my take on re-using lifters.
When doing flat tappet cam testing I may run as may as 8 different cams in a day. what I do here is rub the face of the lifter on 80-100 grit emery paper placed on a very flat surface. I rub the lifter on this in a figure of 8 pattern for about 10 seconds and then tun if about a quarter turn and repeat the rubbing action. Almost whether you like it or not this produces a face radius of about 80 -100 inches which is just what the lifter/cam interface wants. This puts the lifter back to virtually'as-new'.

I have run the same lifters on as many as a dozen cams and seen no untoward signs of any out of the ordinary problems.
