DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Feb. 20, 2008) – Todd Bodine and his team owner have each been penalized 25 points and his crew chief suspended for rule violations that occurred during Speedweeks at Daytona International Speedway, NASCAR officials announced Wednesday.
In addition to the points lost by Bodine and truck owner Stephen Germain, crew chief Mike Hillman Jr. was fined $10,000 and suspended for the next four Truck events, until April 30, and placed on probation until Dec. 31. NASCAR officials said a device designed to reduce the bed panel height at the points of inspection was discovered during pre-qualifying inspection on Feb. 14. A day later Bodine drove his Toyota to victory in the season-opening Chevy Silverado 250 at the 2.5-mile track.
Rick Ren, crew chief for defending NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series champion Ron Hornaday Jr., was fined $5,000 for having spoiler braces that exceeded the maximum 1-inch width on the No. 33 team's Chevrolet. Officials found the infraction during opening day inspection on Feb. 12.
