A Look At Qualifying For Chevy Silverado 250

  • Erik Darnell earned the pole position for Friday night's race in his Northern Tool+Equipment Ford with a lap of 50.983 seconds, 176.529 mph. It was Darnell's second career pole. His first one came at Nashville, Tenn., in 2006.

  • This is Darnell's first pole and second top-10 start in three races at Daytona International Speedway. It is the second Daytona pole for Roush Fenway Racing, matching Bobby Hamilton Racing for the most poles by a truck owner at Daytona.

  • Earning the outside front row starting position was Terry Cook in his Wyler.com Toyota. Darnell defeated Cook for the pole by a mere 0.196 second. Cook was clocked at 51.179 seconds, 175.853 mph. It was Cook's fourth top-10 start in nine Daytona races.

  • Stacy Compton piloted the top qualifying Dodge, recording a lap of 51.313 seconds, 175.394 mph. That gave him the fourth starting position.

  • Series champion Ron Hornaday Jr. led the Chevrolet contingent. He claimed the fifth starting position with a 51.318-second, 175.377-mph lap in his Camping World Chevrolet.

  • Justin Marks was the highest qualifying rookie, capturing the eighth position in his Construct Corps Toyota.

  • Chevrolet earned four of the top-10 starting positions, while Toyota took three and Ford two Dodge secured only one top-10 starting spot.

  • Johnny Benson didn't make a qualifying run because of damage to his Toyota during the final practice session. However, he will start the race since his Toyota Certified Used Vehicles Toyota is in the top-30 in the 2007 owner points.

  • Thirty-seven trucks are entered in the season opener. Benson will start 37th.
