ROCKINGHAM, N.C. – When ARCA teams travel to Rockingham Speedway for their March 21-22 open test, it will be the first time ARCA has been at the 1-mile track since 1973 and fans can be a part of the historical event.
“We'll have race cars on the track from nine to five both days, with a noon to one lunch break,” track owner and 1995 ARCA champion Andy Hillenburg said. “The grandstands and infield will be open to fans and we're expecting a good turnout to come watch.”
Retired NASCAR driver “Chargin'” Charlie Glotzbach earned the pole for the June 10, 1973 ARCA race at Rockingham, then won the Tar Heel 300.
This year's ARCA race will be known as the Carolina 500, the name of the track's original spring NASCAR event. The 500-kilometer race is scheduled for noon on May 4.
