Weber Carb Advice
Hello,
I am strongly considering using Webers on a large V8, 482 cubic inch V8 and could use a little expert advice. The engine will be a street motor, sometime track motor. Power band up to 6,000 or 6,500 RPM
The engine is a stroked 427 Ford SOHC and I have the complete engine, except pistons, valves, cams, and induction. I am hopeful I will make over 600 HP, probably closer to 650 with a compression ratio a little above 10:1
I would like to use Webers and I do not find the idea of making my own manifold intimidating.
My thoughts are to use one of the following Weber type carbs;
1) Berg 58mm IDA's (Not readily available, but hopefully in November)
2) Jay Cee 62mm IDA Terminators (About a one month lead time)
3) 55mm Weber DCOE (ideally with the bore machined out to 58mm; if possible, I am still researching this)
58mm DCOE (Does not seem to be obtainable)
My first choice would be the DCOE, because of several reasons
1) Hood clearance should be a little better, maybe 1.5 inches once you add air cleaners.
2) The manifold can have a more pleasant flow into the intake port and can be longer
3) I have more flexability on air cleaner selection and size.
My questions:
1) If I can get a DCOE bigger than 55mm, is this setup more beneficial than an IDA.
2) Does anyone have any advice on cam selection.
3) Is there a benefit in tuning the length of the intake tract in an IR setup of this nature.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Jim
