Rick,
I need to get up to speed on the use of a 4 inch stroke in a 400 block The Scat stroker rod mentioned in the 383 stroker story ( ) has so much more clearance than what I used before in a 4 inch stroker that I think it re-writes the rules. The last 4 inch stroker I did was some time ago and it was a real pain in the butt. I spent hours clearanceing the rods/block and filled the block to 1 inch below the pump outlet. All this is good but I am in no big rush to do this over again. For all the time involved and the possibilty of scrapping a block I would just as soon go for a Dart block and be done with it. To be honest what we are doing now if we find a good 400 block that sonic's out OK, is to build a 377/382 or a 406/412. But anything bigger it's a Dart block deal. Working with a friend of mine we are on our second 454 small block. You wanna talk torque - like 600 lbs-ft!!!!
