About the SQUISH (you Limeys can call it what you want), I built a couple of engines years ago using TRW forged pistons that had the extra leftover valve-reliefs like your truck pistons have. I always wanted to weld them up, but never did. The welds wouldn't be real close to the ring grooves. If a guy bought welding rod of a similar alloys to the pistons (or something more ductile), and used the by-the-book techniques for minimizing distortion (pre-heat to 175-200F, weld very short beads and then lightly peen and let cool, back-step the beads) why couldn't these unwanted divots be filled and milled?
