Engine Design

The vast majority of new engine designs are based on previous OEM configurations and attending parts/packaging constraints.

An engine designed without limitations could present vastly different intake manifold, head, and exhaust designs. These could be accompanied by related changes in the valvetrain and reciprocating assembly.

Engine coatings are not always a win-win proposition. In some instances engine coatings can be detrimental. I will expound on this at a later time.

Combustion chamber dynamics are a source of conflict even among us of the engineering persuasion. These dynamics differ cycle-to-cycle and cylinder-to-cylinder. Utilizing in-cylinder pressure data and related computer simulations offers promise in this area. Engineers are just beginning to unravel some of the complexities found in the ICE.

I will leave you with this question:

Is gas-porting a viable engineering exercise or merely a fix for an engineering deficiency? Root cause analysis of this subject could prove interesting!
